چکیده

Design Principles Meet the Real World The main reason, IAB argued, that it favored CLNP was that it was necessary for the Internet to ® nd a solution very soon (IAB, 1992a, p. 14). CLNP is a protocol that a is already speci® ed, and several implementations existo so it a will avoid design of a new protocol from scratch, a process that would consume valuable time and delay testing and deploymento (IAB, 1992, p. 10). The concern for practical experience is deep, and the CLNP solution of the IAB appealed to this. Furthermore, it paved the road for interoperability, another key principle in the Internet. Interoperability is recognized to be the end result of a process of stabilization: I think that relying on highly independent and distributed development and support groups (i.e., a competitive product environment) means that we need a production, multi-vendor environment operating for awhile, before interoperabilitycan be highly stable. It simply takes time for the engineering, operations and support infrastructure to develop a common understanding of a technology. (Crocker, 1992) While acknowledging this design principle, the IAB (1992b) in its Kobe declaration of June 1992 explained its IPv7 decision and argued that for IP an exception had to be made: We believe that the normal IETF process of a let a thousand (proposals) bloom,o inwhich the a right choiceo emerges gradually and naturally from a dialectic of deployment and experimentation, would in this case expose the community to too great a risk that the Internet will drown in its own explosive success before the process had run its course.

Seamless Handover for IMS over Mobile-IPv6 Using Context Transfer

Mobility support for the next generation IPv6 networks has been one of the recent research issues due to the growing demand for wireless services over internet. In the other hand, 3GPP has introduced IP Multimedia Subsystem as the next generation IP based infrastructure for wireless and wired multimedia services. In this paper we present two context transfer mechanisms based on predictive and r...

IEEE 802.20 Based Broadband Railroad Digital Network - The Infrastructure for M-Commerce on the Train

The broadband wireless access is emerging as a promising technology to meet the ever-increasing demand of M-commerce on the train. The traditional railroad communication system (RCS) is not only in charge of the traditional train scheduling, but also offers broadband WLAN services to passengers and provides the network platform to the intelligent railroad information system. This imposes a majo...

Seamless Multimedia Services Over All-IP Based Infrastructures: The EVOLUTE Approach

The increasing amount of roaming Internet users in combination with the evolution of IP-based applications has created a strong demand for wide-area, broadband access to a number of IP multimedia services. Wireless LANs can complement the next-generation cellular networks, by offering a cost-efficient, wireless broadband data solution for hot spot areas. By combining the wide coverage of next-g...

IP-based access network infrastructure for next-generation wireless data networks

Next generation wireless network standards are currently being defined. The access network architectures have several specialized components tailored for their respective wireless link technologies even though the services provided by these different wireless networks are fairly similar. In this paper, we propose a homogeneous IPbased network as a common access network for the different wireles...
